PREFACE   'TERRA'   PROJECT

When, in times of satellite TV, Internet and an all-pervasive talk of globalization, somebody is looking for
fellow combatants to realize a project with the goal of global information and education exchange, it might
at first appear that somebody has lost contact to reality - that is not the case.
Unfortunately the majority of mankind still does not have any real opportunity (no electric power, no
education any many more) to experience anything about "other countries other customs" as well as the
effects of human action on ecological processes. Particularly since for many of those affected the utter
survival is determined by much more fundamental problems.
Completely apart from a poverty born lack of information I have, during several years of living in rather
remote regions of the world, personally realized that we, almost no matter on which continent, do not
really know anything about the normal day to day life (so not sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock'n'roll) of the others.
Aside from their curltural backgrounds anyway.
One may say nor: Well, but there are thousands of organizations and institutions already working on this.
However:
For intermediators of culture like the German Goethe Institute and others the handling of the conceptional
and infrastructural complexity of such a project is completely out of cope. Others have primarily monetary
interests - but unfortunately it is hard to make a poor Pashtunie, sitting in his wind shaken mud hut, to
savour for a Cola Light when it turns into a frozen and bubblefree ice-block overnight anyway due to a
lacking heater. Not to mention his missing satellite dish.
